Hurdle rate
in capital budgeting, is the required rate of return on a long-term investment. Hurdle rate should be equal to the incremental cost of capital. When the hurdle rate is lower than the expected rate of return on a project, the project should not be accepted. When the hurdle rate is higher than the expected rate of return on a project, the project should be accepted.
