Physical inventory
is determining inventory on hand by observation (i.e., counts). Physical inventory is performed to provide evidence about the actual inventory quantity, weight, and condition. Physical inventory is completed at least once a year. When a physical inventory is carried out and the actual inventory quantities are determined, the quantities are compared to the quantities recorded in the books and any appropriate adjustments are recorded.
