Zero coupon bond
is a bond that gives a single predetermined payoff at some fixed future date but no interest payments. Interest is accrued semiannually and is not paid until the bond maturity. As a result, zero coupon bonds are sold at a deep discount from their face value. Zero coupon bonds are very sensitive to changes in interest rates.
