3. Accounting KPI and dashboard examples

Let’s take a look at some key performance indicator examples for an accounting and finance department.  For our example, we assume that the department has chosen these KPIs to monitor and improve its operations:

  • Number of days to close a month (goal: make this shorter)
  • Days sales outstanding (goal: make this shorter)
  • Days payables outstanding (goal: pay within supplier payment terms)
  • Prepaid balance as a percent of purchases (goal: make this shorter)
  • Deferred revenue balance as a percent of sales (goal: make this larger)
  • Accounting and finance department budget cost as a percent of company sales
